Kim McArthur wins TIAW World of Difference Award

Toronto – Kim McArthur, President and Publisher, McArthur & Company Publishing Ltd., an award-winning independent Canadian book publisher, was honoured this week at The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) World of Difference 100 Awards Luncheon with an award in the Entrepreneurship category. These awards recognize up to 100 women from around the world who have significantly contributed to the economic empowerment of women. Winners of the TIAW World of Difference Award will also be recognized at the “Empowering Women Globally: Leading Change and Forging Partnerships” conference which is taking place today at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

“I am truly honoured to receive this award and be in the company of such amazing and inspiring women,” says McArthur. “I believe that it is organizations such as TIAW that help unite and support professional women, making positive change in the world possible.”

“We received tremendous nominations from six continents and more than 20 countries around the world,” says Stephanie MacKendrick, past President of the TIAW Board and President of Canadian Women in Communications. “We have been inspired and humbled by the stories of women leaders who, often without fanfare, have taken action to support women’s advancement in society.”

Kim McArthur founded M & Co in l998. Since then, McArthur & Company has had 70 bestsellers, including 25 #1 bestsellers, split between Canadian and international authors, and between fiction and non-fiction titles. McArthur authors have been shortlisted for 15 awards in Canada in the past ten years, including last week’s announcement that Kate Pullinger’s The Mistress of Nothing has been shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award for Fiction 2009.

McArthur has been the recipient of RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year (2001), Consumer's Choice Businesswoman of the Year for Toronto (2005), Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada (2007 ) and listed as one of Canada’s Top 100 Women Business Owners (1999-2008 inclusive). She is noted for championing and mentoring women in the workforce and for travelling widely with Canadian trade and export missions to countries such as Japan, the UK, the US, Australia and Russia.
